Karin became a Registered Psychologist in 2001. She has a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy through Loma Linda University in California. She is a member in good standing with the Alberta College of Psychologists, the Psychology Association of Alberta, and the Alberta Association for Infant Mental Health. 

While in practice Karin has enabled individuals, couples and families to overcome a wide range of challenges. Some areas of treatment interest in include trauma, PTSD, anxiety, abuse,  addictions, communication issues, personal development, parent-child relational issues, infant-preschool mental health, child development, and aging.

Karin is a court recognized expert in counseling psychology, infant-preschool mental health, general assessment, and parenting/custody assessment.

She is a recommended service provider for paramedics / EMT, military personnel, and for First Nations persons.  She previously worked for several years providing psychological services for clients of a sexual assault treatment centre. At one time she was the only full-time psychologist working solely with complex presentation children ages 0-5 years old (toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarten children).

Karin has provided service to community members in home and school settings, private practice, employee assistance programs, community mental health offices, hospitals, and on First Nations reserves. In the past, Karin has run therapeutic groups on parenting, parent-child attachment, self-esteem, and stress management. She continues provide presentations and consults for various government and not-for profit mental health agencies. Karin is a recognized field supervisor for master students, provisional psychologists, PhD. candidates, and has served as a practice mentor for adult and child psychiatrists completing their residencies in child mental health.

Karin utilizes a structural-experiential approach when working with clients. She is certified in EMDR (trauma therapy), Modified Interactive Guidance (attachment therapy), and Motivational Interviewing (additions therapy).  She is also undergoing advanced supervision Emotionally Focused Therapy (couples counselling) having completed the foundational and advanced training.

Karin has long worked with co-therapy dogs in clinical practice. She finds therapy dogs add a supportive element to the clinical experience, and for some clients can be a major element of the healing process. Karin’s therapy dogs typically compete in conformation and performance events when not working in the therapy office or supervising home-life activities.

As Karin works primarily with shiftworkers, those on disability, and parents of young childern, she works weekdays and some weekends
